TECHNICAL SERGEANT PETER A. KRAINES
Tech. Sgt. Peter Kraines was a Special Tactics pararescueman assigned to the 24th Special Operations Wing, Air Force Special Operations Command. As a pararescueman, Kraines was specially trained and equipped for immediate deployment into combat operations to conduct combat search and rescue and personnel recovery operations.
Kraines was born in Albany, New York., in 1985 and he enlisted in the United States Air Force in March 2011. He immediately entered the two-year pararescue training program and upon completion of the pipeline, he was assigned to the 347th Rescue Group, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia. In March 2017, Kraines assessed and was selected to join Special Tactics within the 24th Special Operations Wing. He was a qualified military static-line jumper, free fall jumper, an
Air Force qualified combat scuba diver and certified as an emergency medicine technician.
In 2015, Kraines deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan, where his role was to conduct combat search and rescue and personnel recovery operations. In 2017, he completed a second deployment to Diyarbakir, Turkey.
Kraines died from injuries sustained during training in Boise, Idaho, Oct. 8, 2019. He is survived by his wife and two children.
