Gentlemen,

I am sending the best available information about the 50th Anniversary of Boxer 22 following up from the meeting. I will post updates as they develop, and you can always reach me directly for questions. After a bit of a struggle, I was able to acquire 2 decent options for lodging and details are at the bottom of the email. I have already received enthusiastic RSVPs from some members of the PJ community as well as from Woodie Bergeron.

Details:

Commanders Intent

To stage a 50th Anniversary of Boxer 22 to honor the sacrifices made made by fighter crews, Sandys, Jolly pilots, PJs, and all families affected (to name a few). Also to provide an opportunity to teach the young Airmen about their rich warrior past.

Who?

Anyone who is interested and would like to help celebrate a piece of history.

What?

50th Anniversary of Boxer 22. Dinner on the Anniversary date (dress code: Business casual), and a base wide panel (dress code: Casual) with select members of Boxer 22. Will also provide an information session for those who would like to know about the recent plans for Boxer 22 Memorial and trip to Ban Phanop for those wwho may be interested. Additional closing Happy Hour at Parr.

When?

Dinner starting at 1700 (cocktails first) on 5 December at Randolph O Club, and panel location will be passed when approved by current USAF leadership. Thoughts are to have the panel in the "Ben Danielson Memorial Auditorium" at the 558th Flying Training Squadron. We are still working on guest speaker arrangements but are hopeful.

Where?

Joint Base Randolph. Officers club and potentially the 558th FTS, or Fleenor Auditorium. 2 Lodging options have been provided below.

Why?

To honor the sacrifice and bravery of our past. Enjoy some time to reflect on things that have made our country a great nation.

Doug Horka,

A former PJ with 2 tours in Vietnam. More importantly, however, I am a Certified Veterans Service Officer with the State of Massachusetts. In our state, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE 351 CITIES AND TOWNS, must have a Veterans Service Officer in order to provide guidance and assistance to Veterans, Widows and Families.

VA Vet Centers can provide FREE and CONFIDENTIAL assistance to combat veterans (and families) AND the Vet Centers can do so without notifying the USAF that the Veteran (or even active duty personnel) are receiving treatment and can do so in a manner that will NOT affect the PJ/CRO’s flight or hazardous duty status. Although the Vet Centers are considered “part of” the Veterans Health Administration, Vet Center records are not shared with the VA. Client confidentiality is very important to the Vet Centers.

I offer this as one alternative that the PJ or CRO (or any combat veteran) can considered when troubled by PTSD or TBI.

If you’d like additional explanation, I’d be happy to discuss this further with you. I’ve also attached a May 2019 listing of every Vet Center in the US and Territories.
