Eugene ‘Slab’ Slabinski, had made his Last Jump after prolonged period of illness. God bless his soul.
Slab’ was and is truly my best friend since 1953! Here a very condensed list of his military service:
Eugene ‘Slab’ Slabinski
26 July 1929 born
1948 enlisted US Army, served with 82nd Airborne as Parachute Medic.
1951 enlisted USAF, served as PJ at Okinawa, 33rd ARSq, combat TDY Korea.
1953/54 at Clark, PJ 31st ARSq.
1954 at Westover, PJ 54th ARSq - BW1 to 51st ARSq Goose Bay and Toole Greenland.
1960 PJ at Otis AFB (54th ARSq had mvd) 54th deact, assgnd: Base Rescue, jump stat.
1962 loadmaster C-124 -- later transf to Aerial Port Sq, still on jump and flying status.
1964 loadmaster HC-54/130 ARRS in Scottland, then to Spain, still jump status.
(Note: used a red and white panels, steerable E-1 parachute from the 31st in the 1950s)
1976 Honorable Retirement - settled in Pennsylvania-- he became a RN at VA hospital.
His wife Carol was an USAF medic when he married her. She died in 1990 of cancer. They had eight children - most of them served in the military."
