To All,
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Pararescueman Sgt. David W. Sliger on September 14, 2021 at the age of 75. David entered the service in 1964 and graduated from PJ class 67-1, 11 November, 1966.
After a year of training, he was stationed to Udorn, Thailand, with the renown “Jolly Greens” Rescue Squadron. Dave flew over 130 combat, life-saving missions, over Laos and North Vietnam rescuing several downed pilots.
For his actions, he received the Silver Star for Gallantry, the Distinguished Flying Cross for Heroism, 8 Air Medals and numerous other awards and decorations. To this day, he is highly respected by his Pararescue (PJ) brothers for living by their motto, “These things we do that others may live.”
After returning from Viet Nam, he was stationed at Patrick Air Force Base, FL in support of the Apollo Program. Upon existing the military, David attended University of Florida, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in engineering and went on to become a successful building contractor.
Dave loved to travel. He and his lovely wife, Janis, were world travelers taking one trip back to Viet Nam to put memories from the war behind him.
He is survived by his wife, Janis of 26 years, and step-sons Richard D’Amico and Gary Albritton, as well as Teresa Dean and her husband, Alan Dean. Three much loved grandchildren, Lauren, Jack Dean and Adrianna Albritton will miss their grandfather dearly.
Mother Edith Sliger, brothers Larry Sliger , Sam Sliger and sister, Linda Hunt, will also greatly miss their brother.
A military graveside service will be held at National Cemetery of Bushnel, 6502 SW 102 Avenue, Bushnel, FL 33513 with Honor Guard. A celebration of life will be a luncheon at 9215 East Gobler Drive, Floral City, FL 34426.
Some of us did not know David or just met him in passing with a hand shake. Those that worked with and knew him hold him in high regard as a warrior PJ, who now joins the squadron of PJ Rescue Angels who have made their final jump.
When one of our PJ brothers passes he takes a piece of our hearts with him. It would be immensely appreciated if those who have stories would write or call Janis at 727-433-0848 with your remembrances. Cards can be sent to Janis at 9265 East Gobler Drive, Floral City, FL 34426.
