Jay was born on Sept 8th 1949 having been unceremoniously delivered in a New York City cab along the belt
parkway near Coney Island, NY. Thus began a long journey of travels and exploration. Early in his life Jay lived in Bay Ridge with his Mom, Dad and brothers Bill and Bob. At the age of 13 he and his family relocated to Commack, NY. Graduating from Commack HS in 1967, Jay spent a short time in college before being drafted into the US Army where he became a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne landing in Ft. Bragg, NC. After completing his tour with the US Army, Jay returned to his home base in
Commack with his wife and young son, Jay G Jinks III.
Jay then joined the Commack Fire Department and moved
to Sound Beach with his young family that now included a daughter Justine. Jay never lost his thirst for excitement and in 1975 enlisted in the New York Air National Guards 106th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service based at the Suffolk County Airport in Westhampton Beach, New York. He then began training as a USAF Pararescuemen. Jay was credited with saving many lives throughout his heralded Pararescue career. This included numerous helicopter rescues and several ocean parachute jump
missions.
Jay was awarded the Air Medal for Bravery, the Valley Forge Cross, and in 1986 was awarded the distinguished "Air Rescuemen of the Year Award".
