Chief Charles W. Hoell Jr.
Astoria, OR at the age of
90.
Teammates,
We are sad to announce the passing of Chief Charles W. Hoell Jr. in Astoria, OR at the age of 90.
Chief Hoell was an OG PJ with a very interesting career path. He was originally infantry in the army in the early 50s and transitioned to the AF & pararescue in 1957 with assignments in Lybia, Oki, Hickam (twice), Tan Son Nhut VN, HQ at Scott AFB, and several years in different positions at survival school at Fairchild AFB where he retired in
1979.
He is survived by his son Roger and other loved ones. Per his request he was cremated in his dress uniform and will have his ashes
spread in the Columbia river near his home. He also requested no memorial or obituary.
Some of us did not know Charlie or just met him in
passing with a hand shake. Those that worked with and knew him hold him in high regard as a PJ, who now joins the squadron of PJ Rescue Angels who have made their final jump.
